Shortly after Redmi unveiled its first offering – the Redmi Note 7 – earlier this month, rumours about a Pro variant with a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor of the smartphone started making headlines. Although there was no official indication, it was only logical to assume that a Redmi Note 7 Pro would be in the offing. Today, there’s an official hint that makes things more interesting.
Redmi CEO Lu Weibing conducted a survey on Weibo today asking fans what they want on the Redmi Note 7 Pro. There were all kinds of suggestions in the comments but one particular comment caught the eye of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun. A follower had suggested that Xiaomi should skip the 3GB + 32GB version altogether and release 6GB + 64GB or 6GB + 128GB variants. The reply was reposted by the Xiaomi CEO which gives strong hints of a Redmi Note 7 Pro with the said configuration.

Previous leaked information suggests that the Redmi Note 7 Pro could arrive with the Snapdragon 675 SoC as compared to the Snapdragon 660 SoC inside its sibling. As mentioned above, another big difference will be the rear camera sensor. While the Redmi Note 7 employs a Samsung GM1 sensor with 48-megapixel capacity, the Pro model has been confirmed to boast of a Sony IMX586 sensor that delivers true 48-megapixel pictures. In terms of design, it’s likely to remain the same as is the screen size. A 4,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 is also being expected for the high-end Pro version.
With Xiaomi’s CEO acknowledging user’s replies over the Redmi Note 7 Pro, it seems likely as ever to launch in the near future, likely after the Spring Festival in China. However, there are no official launch dates yet. Meanwhile, the company has started teasing the global debut as well as India launch of Redmi Note 7.
